The Brooktrout - New Jersey's State Fish

Jersey Shore Chapter of Trout Unlimited

Trout Unlimited's mission is to conserve, protect and restore North America's trout and salmon fisheries and their watersheds. It is a private, non-profit organization with 125,000 members in 500 chapters nationwide.

The members of the Jersey Shore Chapter of Trout Unlimited primarily reside in the central New Jersey coastal counties of Monmouth and Ocean. Our conservation activities include yearly stream cleanups and helping with the Sea Run Brown Trout stocking program run by the New Jersey Department of Fish and Wildlife. Our members enjoy both fresh and saltwater fly fishing, and the chapter runs a variety of trips and educational activities throughout the year.

Many thanks, Duane!

Our chapter president, Duane Lloyd, is stepping down to focus on getting his health back. A BIG thank you to Duane for being a great leader for the chapter, and especially for his tireless work on the Trout in the Classroom program. The Jersey Shore Chapter of TU has more participating schools (roughly double) than any other chapter in the state, and it was Duane that made that possible. He will be hard to replace, and we all wish him well and hope to see him back on the stream soon!

And thanks, Ken!

Ken DeVory has volunteered to be our new Trout-in-the-Classroom coordinator for JSTU. Ken is a fairly new member of the Jersey Shore TU chapter, but has been very active in the Central Jersey TU chapter for many years. He will be a great asset to the Trout-in-the-Classroom program and our chapter. Many thanks, Ken, for stepping up and taking on this important job!

Volunteer Opportunities...

Trout in the Classroom
The Jersey Shore Chapter of Trout Unlimited will again be helping several area teachers during the coming school year with Trout-in-the-Classroom (TIC) programs in local schools, and we need volunteers! This program is growing rapidly, and we really could use your help - our chapter will be supporting many more schools than last year. If you're interested in helping the TIC program, PLEASE contact our new TIC coordinator Ken DeVory. Many of the tasks occur during the school day, so if you can spend a few days here and there to help out, it would be sincerely appreciated. This is a great opportunity to get involved and help out with a really great program.

Monmouth County Park System's Outdoor Expo, Turkey Swamp Park - May 18, 2008
Once again, JSTU will be helping with the fishing derby at the Monmouth County Park System's Outdoor Expo at Turkey Swamp Park. This is a great opportunity to get involved and give something back to the community by helping our next generation develop a love of the outdoors. Last year we had over 80 kids participating, so come on out and lend a hand - your help will be appreciated! Contact Jim Ketschersid for more information.
